About Us
Our club was established in 1983 to provide a sporting opportunity for the sisters of boys playing soccer. The initiative began with support from the Blaxland Redbacks Soccer Club* and was founded by a dedicated group of parents.
While the Mt Riverview Netball Club had been formed the year before, it faced challenges with only two teams, one umpire, two trainee umpires, and an executive team made up of four people from two families (including Jan and Gordon Grant), who were managing all the work.
The club was invited to join forces with the Redbacks, bringing along their valuable experience. In its first year, Redbacks Netball Club started with five teams. By the second year, that number grew to seven teams, and by the third year, we had expanded to twelve teams.
Today, we are proud to have three of our original members still with the club: Jan Grant, Gordon Grant, and Lee Harvey (née Grant).
*Note: The Blaxland Redbacks Soccer Club later changed its name to Blaxland Soccer Club and is now known as Blaxland Football Club.
Our Uniform
In 1983, when the Redbacks Netball Club was first established, we kept the uniform simple and affordable, starting with a red T-shirt and black "wrap-around" skirt. This approach was aimed at keeping costs low for our players.
Due to popular demand, the wrap-around skirt was eventually replaced by a black pleated skirt. A few years later, the uniform was updated again with a top featuring a "piped" pattern.
In 2008, we introduced a new, blended design for the uniform.
In 2013, the latest update, when we unveiled our current uniform.
Our Banner
We take great pride in our banner, which is showcased during the match past at the beginning of every season. The first Redbacks banner, created in 1983, was hand-painted and later replaced by a patchwork version, created by our dedicated parents.
In 2016, we introduced a printed banner, and by 2025, our collection expanded to four banners/signs. These banners continue to be featured in the match past and can now also be seen around the Blaxland neighbourhood, representing our club with pride.
